perfect day, perfect storm!!

started out geocaching on the boat down at the coomera river,where the first wpt of five started.

collecting wpts it was taken me up along side south straddie isle,it was the indy weekend and i could see a big black storm brewing over the gold coast moving up towards me! It was moving fast and i decided to quickly anchor up before i got caught,first there was blinding rain with wind that was swinging me around on the anchor then came the hail,that made me duck for cover under the bow,the noise was deafening,i was sure the hail was going to put a hole in the roof or smash the windscreen! It past just as quickly it arrived and i was amazed no damage was done!

after the storm i moved on and found the cache on an island near the jumpinpin,only trouble was that there were campers there,after a quick diversion the booty was in hand!

down the back

have the coordinates for the final location of down the back,so set of this morning to find a way down past the waterfalls!

well finally got past the first waterfall to be confronted with another one to get past,got to bottom and WOW,what a lost world down here,massive boulders,trees growing out of them very ancient looking and the best waterfall on the coast!

took a lot of searching as the gps was bouncing all over the place!

now for the climb out!

Brrrrrr. girraween

first night is was bloody cold,minus 4.8 degs in the morning!
we kept a roaring fire in the brazier going and it was'nt to bad sitting next to it.we had some great camp stove meals and lots of laughs around the fire,
we hiked up to the top of the mountain and i got up on one of the boulders for a photo,jumping down i fell over and grazed my knee and hands on the hard granite,the others thought it was hilarious,it was if it did'nt hurt so much!

10 minutes of hell!

decieded to ride to byron bay this morning.

after witnising a bike rider die after being in a road accident on the way back from the camping wkend at jimna a couple of weeks ago,his head was still hot in my hands when i removed his helmet,i did'nt think it had effected me much until this morning riding my bike. i kept thinking what if it was me lieing in the gutter,not never seeing the grandkids again,every car that went past made me cringe,i wanted to turn back,i did'nt want to ride! i knew i was being daft,i have always been very careful riding,ever since i was hit by a car on my first bike when i was sixteen,the images kept flicking through my head,i just had to concentrate on riding,it was hard! thankfully i put thing into perspective and things became clearer and i started to enjoy the ride. the miles quickly passed and i did'nt really give it a second thought!

picked the wrong day to go to byron ,kids everwhere,splendour in the grass concert was on,grabbed the famous bay kebab and walked up to the beach to eat it,while looking out to sea saw this great big splash in the distance,a whale, awesome!

rode the bike up to the lighthouse for a better look, sat there for an hour in the warm winter sun,nothing!

rode home with the vstrom eating up the road,this bike is great . it did'nt feel like it the first ten minutes this morning!

campin' at jimna

19th july 08

camped for two nights,1st night was 1.7 deg,second night was .5 deg,bloody cold,after first night we went into town and bought two hot water bottles,which made the second night more bearable. both nights we had a roarin' fire which was great until you moved away from it!

we attended the geo event Are yuo smarter than an immgrant,well ye' pirates scored so low we were deported!whoa hoo! the event was over 40klm through jimna forest tracks which was great!

12 FTP'S

thats right,we managed to go out and get 12 first to plunders!,over the brookwater,bellbird,goodna area.
halfway through we stopped at fisn'n'chip place and had the most disgusting piece of fish ever!,it seemed like it was yestrerdays cooked fish that was re'deepfried,i did'nt eat mine,ye' galley wench ate hers and thought it was good!

first ride on new strom

left in the cold on a ride out towards toowoomba this morning on the new suzuki vstrom,felt warm and toasty thanks to the excellent dri rider jacket.

the bike ate up the miles quickly and in comfort,with what looks to be great fuel compsumtion.

the new oxford humpback tank bag worked really well with the magnets holding it in place,had concerns with it because of the shape of the stroms fairing but all was well.

The strom was a joy to ride and it looks like we are going to get along together fine
